12 ounce bottle into snifter. Pours a very hazy brown-orange color with a fairly dense 2 finger off white head with good retention. Aromas of dark fruits, molasses, caramel, toffee, and spices. Extremely malty aromas. Smells more like a dark Belgian style than a barley wine. Taste of dark fruits, molasses, and caramel. There is an extremely large amount of alcohol in this that is very close to masking the actual flavor of the beer. After sipping back some of this the alcohol presence does seem to shy away, showing the extremely malty character of this beer. Syrupy full body with medium carbonation. The malty notes last for a while after the finish, along with the alcohol warming that is quite strong. Overall, I would say that if this wasn’t so boozy with the alcohol seriously detracting from the flavor, it would be a solid malty beer. I probably won’t be having this again, but it is always a possibility down the road.

It is possible, and probably even guaranteed that I got a bad bottle or something. A lot of the ratings had a lot of good to say about this, then there were the others that showed the alcoholic mess that I got. Will have to search out a fresh batch, I have no idea how old this bottle was.
