AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
12 ounce bottle into snifter, best before May 2011. Pours extremely dark brown color with a dense 2 finger tan head with excellent retention that reduces to a thin lacing cap that lasts for the remainder of the glass. Aromas of chocolate, coffee, caramel, and roasted malts; with some light orange and grapefruit notes. Fairly strong aromas as well. Taste of strong roasted dark chocolate, roasted malts, caramel, and molasses. There is not much noticeable bitterness, but there is a little bit on the finish that lingers with some citrus notes and roasted flavors. The taste has a little bit of off flavors, but is fairly well balanced, though not very complex. Medium carbonation and medium full bodied. Very smooth drinking as well, with no noticeable alcohol presence other then a small warming after the finish. Overall this is not bad at all, very good imperial stout!
Not very complex for an Imperial Stout, but this one is definitely good stuff!
