Oskar Blues Gubna Imperial IPA

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

4.3/5

AROMA
9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20

12 ounce can into tulip, canned 5-31-11. Also says "420? try 428!"(batch number perhaps?) haha. Pours thick hazy orange amber color with a fairly dense 2-3 fingers of off white head with great retention. Aromas of huge grapefruit, orange, lemon, pine resin, pineapple, mango, caramel, and a bit of spices. Damn that is a nice and strong nose, not much alcohol at all. Taste of big grapefruit, orange, lemon, pine, caramel, and a bit of tropical fruits. A nice sized bitterness fades in after the finish and lingers for a while with pine and citrus flavors. Medium carbonation and fairly full bodied. A bit of a syrupy yet creamy mouthfeel is present as well. Incredibly drinkable for the 10% ABV, but still a sipper. Fantastic balance of bitterness and sweetness, making the huge bitterness very tolerable. Overall an outstanding DIPA that has a great balance of flavors and nice complexity(yet only uses 1 hop variety!)

Such an outstanding DIPA offering from Oskar Blues. Glad I picked this one out when I was out of state, still pretty fresh as well.
